Paw and Play Book List
Creating monthly book lists is one of our favorite things to do when putting our sensory kits together! Exposure to books is so important for young children as they build language skills.
We love utilizing our local library to keep our book rotation updated. Below are some of our favorite books about furry friends!
Madeline’s Rescue by Ludwig Bemelmans
Join Madeline on an adventure around Paris! When she is joined by a four-legged friend things get even more exciting. This classic book series is made even better with the addition of a canine companion!
Doggies by Sandra Boynton
A sweet count-along book, Doggies is the perfect book for little readers who are learning to count 1-10. With engaging illustrations this is sure to be a family favorite!
Good Dog, Carl by Alexandra Day
When Carl is in charge for the day he and the baby go on lots of adventures around the house! This is a book without words so its perfect for young readers to make up their own story to as you turn each page!
Go, Dog. Go! by P.D. Eastman
A book full of opposites, Go, Dog. Go! is a perfect book for vocabulary building! With colorful illustrations all about dogs going about the town, this book is one that little readers can enjoy while being read to or on their own!
Martha Speaks by Susan Meddaugh
When Martha eats a bowl of alphabet soup she suddenly has the ability to speak! When an unexpected intruder comes into their home Martha is able to save the day and find her voice at the same time!

When a city dog is feeling the heat of summer he takes a trip out of the city to the beach for a breezy day near the sea! This book is perfect for introducing little readers to adjectives as they build their vocabulary. It’s also a perfect book to read as we dream of warmer weather and trips to the ocean.
Good Boy, Fergus! by David Shannon
From the beloved author of the Oh David! books, join Fergus on a busy day around his neighborhood! With engaging illustrations this is the perfect book for the youngest readers with a sweet and simple story about a pup who is learning to listen.
