Out of This World Book List

Creating monthly book lists is one of our favorite things to do when putting our sensory kits together! Exposure to books is so important for young children as they build language skills.

We love utilizing our local library to keep our book rotation updated! Below are some of our favorite books about space we are excited to share with you!

Books for ages 0-3+

Roaring Rockets by Tony Mitton and Ant Parker

The Amazing Machines books are simple and captivating books that do a wonderful job introducing young readers to types of machines. In Roaring Rockets children will learn all about the ins and outs of how a rocket travels through space!

On the Launch Pad by Miachael Dahl

Countdown to the rocket launch while learning all about numbers! This is a wonderful book for young readers learning to count and identify numbers. One of our favorite things about this book are the numerals hidden in the illustrations that make for an engaging scavenger hunt on every page!

There was an Old Astronaut who Swallowed the Moon by Lucille Colandro

A book that is sure to have your little one laughing this retelling of a classic nursery rhyme is such a fun read! Follow along as an astronaut fills her belly with lots of things from outer space. With a cadence that repeats this is sure to be one that will be retold again and again.

Sadie Soars into Space by Arezu Sarvestani

Sadie goes on a cosmic journey with her cat, Buckles, to unravel the mysteries of the solar system. This book will teach engaging facts about space to young readers while they enjoy beautiful illustrations.

Rocket the Space Giraffe by Suzanne Shepard

Inspired by a real-life giraffe from a Texas zoo, this rhyming picture-book is a sweet story about following your dreams. This books also includes lots of fun facts about giraffes for astronomers and zoologists alike!

Books for ages 4+

The Planets by Gail Gibbons

We are big fans of books by Gail Gibbons! They are great introductions to non-fiction for little readers and super engaging. Dive into this book to learn all about our solar system and how each planet is unique and wonderful.

Me and My Place in Space by Joan Sweeney

The scope and size of space is something that is difficult to comprehend. Me and My Place in Space is a good way to help children understand the vastness of space and exactly where we live in the universe. If you like this book be sure to check out Me on the Map by the same author!

How to Catch a Star by Oliver Jeffers

What does it take to catch a star? Follow along on this story of imagination, exploration and determination as you try to capture a star. With beautiful illustrations, and a sweet story this is one of our favorites to read again and again.
