Inside Out Book List

Creating monthly book lists is one of our favorite things to do when putting our sensory kits together! Exposure to books is so important for young children as they build language skills.

We love utilizing our local library to keep our book rotation updated! Below are some of our favorite books about the amazing human body.

Books for children 0-3

Me and My Amazing Body by Joan Sweeney

If you have a Fern Montessori sensory kit, this is a great book to read and match the different organ figurines with their pictures in the book. This book takes an in depth look at each of the systems of the body and how they work together to make up our amazing bodies!

The Body Book by Hannah Alice

With overlaying see-through pages this is a great book to help children understand how everything in their body works together. This book can grow with your readers and spark scientific curiosity for years and years!

Eyes, Nose, Belly, Toes by Krupa Bhojani Playforth

Each and everyone’s body is unique and wonderful! This is the perfect first book for your little one as they are learning to identify the parts of their body. With a simple message and bright and engaging illustrations, this is sure to be a family favorite.

From Head to Toe by Eric Carle

This is such a fun book to move along with while you read! Each page talks about how to move a different part of your body. We highly recommend reading and moving along!

X-Ray Me by Felicitas Horstschäfer

A book filled with engaging illustrations showcasing the insides of our body! We love this book for little ones, not only because it is an intro to anatomy, but it also has a handle (!) which makes it easy to carry for even the littlest hands.

Books for children 4-6

My Body from Andrea Pennington

Each Inside Out sensory kit contains this scholastic book! With real photos and engaging graphics this book is a wealth of information all about what makes the human body special!

Skulls! by Blair Thornburgh

Skulls can sometimes seem a little spooky, but Skulls! shares with readers what an important bone the skull is. It protects our noggins and gives shape to our faces. The illustrations are charming, and the delivery of information is fun and engaging. Skulls! is a must read.

My Bones by Kim Norman

When a shipwreck scatters the bones of a skeleton all across the ocean floor, this book goes on a rhyming adventure to re-build the skeleton. I love this book because it is both informative and has storytelling elements as well!

Look Inside Your Body by Louie Stowell

Have you ever wondered what your body looks like underneath your skin? If so, this is the perfect book for you! With lots of lift-the-flap illustrations, it is the perfect way to learn about what exactly is under your skin!

The Magic School Bus: Inside the Human Body by Joanna Cole and Bruce Degen

Magic School Bus is such a throwback, that stands the test of time! I still remember reading this book as the school bus and crew travel through Arnold’s digestive system. A read that’s sure to stick with you and teach you all about the digestive tract!
